Project Description
From ground level, this Old Saybrook home barely saw the water it sat beside. A low, aging deck and a rise of dune grass hid the Long Island Sound view the family loved, and years of salt air had taken their toll on the original wood and hardware. They came to Decks US with a clear goal: lift the outdoor living space up to the view, and build it to survive life on the Connecticut shoreline.
We designed and built an elevated deck off the home’s main living level, raising it just enough to open a clean, uninterrupted view over the dune to the Sound. The surface is AZEK® capped PVC — the most moisture- and salt-resistant decking we install — framed with T316 marine-grade stainless cable railing that keeps the water view wide open and won’t corrode in coastal air. Powder-coated steel posts and engineered footings carry the elevation with lateral bracing sized for coastal wind, and an under-deck drainage system turns the space below into a dry, shaded patio the family uses just as much as the deck above. A wide staircase steps down to the yard, and integrated post and stair lighting keeps everything safe after dark. Every fastener and connector is stainless, built for the salt air. What was once a hidden view is now the centerpiece of the home.
